| A nostalgic Scottish theme
was chosen for this room with a frieze of scenes illustrating
Sir Walter Scott’s Waverley novels. The geometrically
decorated dado was said to be “Mediaeval”
in style. The fireplace is lined with Minton tiles,
some after paintings by Sir Joshua Reynolds.
The room was originally furnished with a magnificent
mahogany dining suite comprising a grand 20 foot telescope
dining table with 9 leaves and 18 dining chairs and
2 carvers as well as other seating. To facilitate the
serving of meals there was a 7 foot mahogany sideboard
and a five- foot dinner wagon. There were vast quantities
of silver and silver plate, china, crystal and glass
listed in the Sale Catalogue.
